6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. —Philippians 4:6-7
Don’t worry about anything? I know you’re probably thinking it’s easier said than done. No; it’s just as easy to do as it is to say. The reason you think it’s hard to stop worrying is because you’ve convinced yourself that it is hard…that you can’t help yourself. Worrying is an habitual sin! What? Yes. What makes it a sin is the Lord Jesus Christ said don’t do it. Plain and simple. (Read Matthew 6:25-34).
As with any sin you commit, you repent (turn away from, change your way of thinking), ask God to forgive you, receive His forgiveness when you ask in sincerity, and stop it. What should take the place of worry is …PRAYER! Paul says, pray about everything. Everything? Yes. Pray about it regardless of how small the matter may be. Remember, you worried about everything, no matter how small? Tell God (as if He doesn’t know) what you need, and THANK him for all He has done. So, now you must do three things to replace the one thing you did, which was, worry.
Pray about everything
Tell God what you need
Be thankful for all He’s done
Now, is that hard?
Doing these three things will redirect your thoughts to focus on God rather than the problems that consumed your thoughts. I tell you what’s hard; it’s hard to worry when you’re praying, praising and worshiping God. When you do these three things, you will experience the incomprehensible peace of God. The peace that God gives is like a military officer on guard duty. It’s a checkpoint! It sets up a garrison over your heart and mind (your subconscious and conscious, and the seat of your emotions) “as” you live in Christ Jesus. Key…”live in Christ Jesus.” Worrying causes you to live outside of the will of God where there’s no protection. Living outside of God’s will is plain and simple, disobedience. And anytime you’re living in disobedience to God’s Word (outside of His will), you are an open target for the enemy. Basically, you will be living to yourself, dependent on your abilities, capabilities, resources, and looking to man as your source. When you live in Christ Jesus, you understand that He is the SOURCE who provides resources to those who are living in Him, obeying His Word and trusting (resting) in Him. Oh! What peace!
Oh! Taste and see that the Lord is good…
You worrying? Stop it! Obey the Word cited above. Follow the steps listed above, and receive the peace of God promised in the scripture above. It’s to your advantage to stop worrying; God is in control!
